What is 2D Animation?
The rapid display of a sequence of images is called Animation. Animation done with the help of 2D or 3D modeling creates an illusion of movement. There is no trickery in Animation, but its just an optical illusion of motion, which is caused by the so called phenomenon of persistence of vision. The good thing about Animation is that it can be created, demonstrated and expanded in numerous ways by drawers or animators. The most common form of animation used by the animators is the motion picture or video game format, even though there are several other types of animation exist. In 2D Animation the characters and surroundings are developed by animators on a flat plane of 2 dimensions, where as the 3D animation is computer generated.
A 2D Animation can be as simple as flip-book or sophisticated as hand-drawn animated series developed by Walt Disney. The major difference between 2D Animation and 3D Animation is that characters and objects developed in 2D Animation cannot be rotated around, there is no provision for clicking and dragging the characters and objects with the help of a mouse so as to view a scene from various angles. Creating animation as per the requirement at a tight budget is also possible with 2D as compared to 3D, which is very costly. To get the desired image a series of over 20 frames with subsequent actions are flashed within seconds of each other and then they are filmed together. The viewer's brain sees these images in a incremental form and due to illusion of movement, the images appear as 2D Animation.
